Tampere University’s disciplines in THE rankings – education science improves its placement

Education science at Tampere University improved its position in a new international university ranking. It was ranked in the category of 176–200 in its field.

Times Higher Education (THE) recently published discipline-specific world university rankings.

After the overall ranking of universities, the magazine publishes subject-specific rankings, all of which were published simultaneously this year.

Tampere University featured in nine fields of research and teaching. The best in its own list was education science whose placement slightly rose from last year. Education science made it into the best 200 in the world (places 176–200).

Both social sciences and arts and humanities placed in the category of 201–250.

“For long, education science at Tampere University has committed to international activities in research, publishing, and education. It is gratifying and encouraging to see that the determined and high-quality work of our community members is also rewarded in international university rankings,” Dean Päivi Pahta says.

In the international comparison of Times Higher Education, the overall placement of Tampere University is among the best 350 universities in the world. Research citations have usually been Tampere University’s forte, and in the latest ranking, it did the best in research.

THE uses five pillars to assign a ranking, broken down into more detailed indicators. The weightiest pillars are teaching, research and the number of research citations.
