Tampere University was placed 34th in newly announced results of the Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings 2020, which features only institutions aged 50 or younger.

THE Young University Rankings 2020 list the world's best universities that are 50 years old or younger.  The new Tampere University, created through a merger between the University of Tampere and Tampere University of Technology at the beginning of 2019, was now featured in the ranking for the first time.  Of the hundreds of young universities listed, the University appeared in the 34th place.

For the third consecutive year, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology claimed the top spot. Nanyang Technological University in Singapore ranked second and the Paris Sciences et Lettres – PSL Research University Paris was third. Of other universities in Finland, Aalto University was featured in the ranking and was placed 20th.

The table is based on the same 13 performance indicators as the flagship THE World University Rankings, but the weightings have been adjusted to give less weight to reputation.

The 2020 ranking includes 414 universities from around the world, up from 351 in 2019.
