Tampere University keeps its position in QS ranking – employers are increasingly appreciative of graduates
Tampere University was ranked in the top 30% in the latest QS Word University Rankings. TAU’s actual place in the international comparison was 415.
The annual QS Ranking analysed data on more than 2,400 universities and higher education institutions globally, of which 1,422 institutions were ranked. This year, 124 newcomers were included in the list.
Among the indicators used in the ranking, Tampere University did the best in terms of International Research Network (IRN), which is a new indicator in the QS comparison. In that indicator, Tampere University was the 253rd place.
The IRN indicator reflects the geographical diversity and efficiency of the university’s partnership network as reflected by scientific co-publication. QS only considers those network partners with which universities have co-published at least three publications in the last five years.
QS conducts a survey with employers to assess the reputation of universities as educators of skilled professionals.In this respect, Tampere University rose as much as 54 places to the 346th place.
The indicators used in the QS ranking include Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Faculty Student Ratio, Citations per Faculty, and internationality measured by the two indicators of International Faculty and International Students. In addition to the above-mentioned (IRN), QS had created a new indicator on employment outcomes.
In this year’s ranking, nine Finnish universities were included. The global frontrunner is Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
