Tampere University ranked among the top 300 in a new international university ranking. Research citations were the University’s strength again.

Times Higher Education (THE) magazine ranks more than 1,600 universities and colleges worldwide based on performance indicators, with the top 200 receiving a precise score. Tampere University slightly improved its ranking from last year and is now among the places from 251 to 300.

As in recent years, Tampere University scored highest in research citations. The performance indicator of citations – which means the number of times other researchers cite research carried out at the university – reflects research impact. In terms of citations alone, Tampere University was ranked in the 227th place, which is above its overall ranking.

This year, THE ranked 10 Finnish universities and Tampere University was in the shared third place with LUT University and the University of Oulu.

The ranking methodology uses five areas that are divided into more detailed indicators. The most significant areas are teaching, research, and the number of citations. THE will publish field-specific rankings over the autumn.

The University of Oxford came first in THE World University Rankings.
