Tampere University among the top third in QS university ranking

The global QS World University Rankings 2022 places Tampere University in the top third among the world’s universities. Tampere University received higher scores than its overall ranking in academic reputation and research citations which have also been its strong suit before.

Tampere University was ranked among the top 32% in the latest QS Word University Rankings. The University’s 414th place in the international ranking remained almost unchanged from last year. 

This year, the annual QS ranking analysed data from more than 1,600 universities and higher education institutions, 1,300 of which were ranked. In academic reputation, Tampere University was ranked 337th, which was the University’s best indicator in the comparison. The other measured areas include employer reputation, number of research citations, student-faculty ratio, and internationalisation. Tampere University received the best individual score in the number of research citations. The result corresponds to the findings of both the Times Higher Education (THE) and QS rankings in the recent years. 

Nine Finnish universities were included in the ranking with the University of Helsinki ranked the first. 

At the beginning of 2021, the QS World University Ranking by Subject was published with Tampere University ranked in four out of the five broad subject areas; the best results were in the broad discipline of Engineering and Technology. Among the subjects within the disciplines, Library and Information Management, Communication and Media Studies, and Education and Training received the best scores. 

The QS-ranking uses the Scopus database as the source of citations. Universities’ reputation and employer image were analysed using survey data. 

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was ranked the first in the world.
