Ambassadors the envoys of impact and visibility for the City of Tampere. The City of Tampere has six Ambassador groups, made up of experts and influencers from different fields. Tampere University, Tampere University of Applied Sciences, together with the City of Tampere, have assembled a diverse group of Alumni Ambassadors – Tampere Alumni – made up of alumni of the higher education community who have achieved distinction in their studies and working life. The group is united by a strong relationship with the Tampere region and the higher education community.

On 25 November, the Ambassador event at the City Hall was long-awaited. The evening was hosted by Mayor Anna-Kaisa Ikonen, Strategy Director Reija Linnamaa and Planning Officer of International Affairs Pekka Pernu. Many of the invited guests knew each other only from virtual meetings meaning that the face-to-face meeting created a cheerful buzz in the ballroom.

“I believe that, alongside nations and regions, the role of cities will become even more significant. Tampere is the most attractive city in Finland, forward-looking and vibrant,” Anna-Kaisa Ikonen emphasised in her speech.

The aim of Alumni Ambassadors is to develop interaction between the Tampere Universities community and society and to increase awareness about teaching, research, and international business cooperation opportunities. Alumni Ambassadors also contribute to stakeholder cooperation and fund-raising at the Universities community.

“It was great that this event could be organised. The Old City Hall is a truly magnificent venue and well suited to our prestigious Ambassador meeting, for which we thank the City of Tampere. Alumni Ambassadors are an important resource for us, and I believe that we are all winners in this work,” said Elina Suojanen-Laine, Head of Unit at Innovation Services and Partnerships at Tampere University.
