TAMK was rated as the most attractive university of applied sciences in Finland and Tampere University was found to have consistently strengthened its brand.

The city of Tampere continues to be the most popular study destination among Finnish youth. Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) and Tampere University stand out not only because of their location and reputation but also for the quality of their education and strong international dimension.  Taloustutkimus, an independent market research company, has recently conducted a survey to explore how the brands of Finnish higher education institutions are perceived among young Finns.

For young people who are considering a university of applied sciences degree, TAMK is the most attractive option: it is the first choice for 14% of the 2,500 respondents. Of all the respondents interested in pursuing a university degree, 28% would choose Tampere University, making it the second most popular university in Finland. There are 25 universities of applied sciences and 13 universities in Finland.

Tampere Universities received overwhelmingly positive reviews in the survey, which included nine statements about the image and brand of Finnish higher education institutions. TAMK was rated among the top three of universities of applied sciences in seven categories and topped four of the categories, namely “reputation as a place of study”, "international opportunities”, “city attractiveness” and “attractiveness of fields of study”.  Tampere University was rated among the top three of universities in five categories and topped the categories for “attractiveness of fields of study” and “city attractiveness”.

Both TAMK and Tampere University were recognised for their quality of education and the high value that employers place on degrees conferred by them. Both received strong overall ratings in the survey: on a scale of 4–10, TAMK was rated 8.0, which was the highest rating awarded to a university of applied sciences, and Tampere University was rated 8.39.

The survey demonstrated that local people are well aware of the merger of the University of Tampere and Tampere University of Technology that took place at the turn of the year to create the new Tampere University. As many as 81% of respondents living in the Tampere region but only a little more than one-third of all respondents were aware of the merger. The survey indicates that the new university has been consistently growing its brand over the last year.

Roughly 2,500 Finns under the age of 30 completed the survey in February and March 2019.
