About 3,300 new students have been admitted for the Finnish-language studies that begin in the autumn at the Tampere University. All applicants who participated in the joint university application system in the spring will receive a results letter sent to all applicants in Finland. In the case of certain study programmes available for application, it is possible to be selected from the waiting list until the beginning of August.

In line with previous years, some of the most popular degree programmes at Tampere University, based on the number of applicants who selected the programmes as their primary choice, were medicine, business studies, psychology, class teacher studies, administrative studies and social studies. The master’s degree programmes in technology in general grew in popularity. Among master's degree programmes, the most popular study programmes available for application were the master's degree programme in technology in management and information technology, organised in Pori, and the master's degree programme in social work. The number of applicants who participated in the second joint university application system in the spring grew by 12 per cent from the previous year.

About 3,300 students begin their studies in Finnish-language programmes in the autumn. In addition to the students admitted in this batch, a total of 785 applicants to the English-language study programmes were admitted earlier in the spring.

As a result of the reform in student admissions, the certificate-based admission covered the majority of study programmes available for application in the student selection process in the spring 2020. In these study programmes, more than 50 per cent of the students were admitted directly based on the grades they achieved in matriculation exams.

Tampere University also admits students based on their studies at the Open University and through the transfer application process. This autumn, nearly 200 students who were admitted through an Open University Track or transfer application process begin their studies at Tampere University.

The track study programmes in different fields at the Open University offer an opportunity to utilise a year off and apply for a study place based on successful studies at the Open University. According to the Team Leader of the Admission Services of Tampere University, Meeri Oikemus, new alternative admission procedures will be added in the next round of applications.

197 new study places available in the autumn

Due to the coronavirus situation, exceptional changes to the student admissions were implemented at short notice. Most of the entrance examinations at Tampere University were organised in two phases. Around 70 remote entrance examination and seven entrance examinations that required people to be present in person were held in the spring.

Backed by the state supplementary budget, Tampere University added 197 new study places for students who begin their studies in autumn 2020. The new places were allocated in branches that are suffering from a shortage of experts, such as social welfare and health care and engineering.

The results of the joint university application process of the institutions of higher education are visible in the My Studyinfo service. Applicants must accept their study places by 22 July 2020 at 15:00 at the latest.

All applicants who participated in the joint university application system in the spring will receive a results letter sent to all applicants in Finland. The letter contains the result of the student selection process and selection scores by study programme. In the case of certain study programmes available for application, it is possible to be selected from the waiting list. The selections from the waiting list will be completed on 3 August 2020 at 15:00.
