Tampere University of Applied Sciences’ first alumna of the year is Layette’s CEO Sini Havukainen. The grounds for selecting her were her exceptional multidisciplinarity and activeness in entrepreneurship and cooperation networks. She has made a career which combines health care expertise with new technology.

Havukainen has done pioneering work as a startup entrepreneur and worked as an opinion former both in Finland and abroad. She has been a model alumna by visiting TAMK’s entrepreneurship studies, cooperating with sale of midwifery and public health nursing education and participating in the ViVa project.

Sini Havukainen graduated in midwifery from TAMK in 2008. After graduation she worked as a midwife at Tampere University Hospital and Kanta-Häme Central Hospital. Her present-day work as Layette’s CEO is an interesting combination of entrepreneurship, latest technology and health care expertise.

The Layette maternity app is a success story which takes the Finnish maternity clinic system abroad. A maternity clinic system based on the Finnish model will first be launched in Japan in 2020. The United Arab Emirates and China are next in line. In Finland, every third pregnant woman has the Layette maternity application in her phone. It offers useful and practical information on pregnancy, childhood and parenthood.

Layette has won several business competitions. NTT DATA Open Innovation in the Nordic and Baltic Countries in spring 2019 is one of the latest. Earlier this year the Junior Chamber International Tampere granted Sini Havukainen with a young achiever’s award.

TAMK now selected the alumnus of the year for the first time. Tampere University of Applied Sciences and Tampere University started joint alumni activities called Tampere Alumni at the beginning of 2019. All students and staff members of TAMK and Tampere University and their preceding organisations are Tampere alumni. The alumni activities aim at promoting versatile interaction between the higher education institutions and alumni. www.tuni.fi/alumni
