Over the next three weeks, the library will send out requests to researchers to self-archive publications from 2021 to 2022 that have not yet been self-archived. Self-archiving is a form of open access publishing, and it increases the visibility and impact of publications as well as impacts on university funding.

Researcher, please send the missing accepted manuscripts for self-archiving

Requests for self-archiving will be sent directly to your emails over the next few weeks. When you receive the email, please send the accepted manuscript versions of the articles in response to the email. The library will take care of the rest, i.e. ensure the self-archiving policy of the publication and set a possible publication embargo. Your publication will then be openly available either immediately or after the embargo period in the open institutional repository of Tampere University, Trepo

Self-archiving increases the visibility of research and impacts on university funding

At Tampere University all scientific publications are self-archived whenever the publisher allows it. Self-archiving is open access publishing and promotes open science. Open access publishing increases the visibility and impact of publications. Self-archiving is free of charge and most publishers allow the researchers to self-archive their own final version of the manuscript, the so-called accepted manuscript.

Open access of peer-reviewed scientific publications also impacts university funding through an additional coefficient in the funding model. The national monitoring model for open science and research monitors open access publishing as part of the open science in higher education and research institutions. The results of this monitoring will be used in negotiations between the Ministry of Education and Culture and universities. Self-archiving can be used to increase the number of open access publications and improve the university’s score in the indicators described above.
