Towards sustainable safety – welcome to the Safety and Security Research Symposium 2019

The First Safety and Security Research Symposium will be organised at Tampere University’s Main Building on 10th October 2019 at 8.30 a.m. - 5.15 p.m.   


The Safety and Security Research Symposium 2019 will showcase the latest research in safety and security and offer you the opportunity to meet researchers, practitioners and industry experts specialising in the field.  

The symposium will explore the latest advances in safety and security research. The keynote speaker will be Professor Hiski Haukkala of Tampere University. The experts who will participate in the panel discussion on Thursday morning will include Professor Catia Confortini (Wellesley College), Professor Meri Koivusalo (Tampere University), Business Advisor Heini Wallander (Business Tampere), Director General Olli-Pekka Heinonen (Finnish National Agency for Education), Professor Stephen J. Wright (Tampere University) and Senior Principal Valtteri Vuorisalo (Accenture). The closing session will be chaired by Professor Catia Confortini (Wellesley College) and Professor Teemu Tallberg (Finnish National Defence University). 

The parallel sessions will cover a wide range of topics. The themes will include the governance of uncertainty, safety and security in digitalisation, the ecological crisis and circular economy, global health security, event safety, information operations and media literacy, the security issues and possibilities of face recognition technology, the face of safety in a global world, and the crisis of liberal order. The symposium will offer you the opportunity to meet with researchers, public officials, industry professionals and third-sector representatives. The event is free of charge, but please register in advance.
