Tampere University’s President Mari Walls has been appointed to the Research and Innovation Strategy Group (RISG) of the European University Association (EUA), an umbrella organisation for European universities. Walls was Universities Finland’s (UNIFI) candidate for the post. The European University Association (EUA) represents more than 850 universities and national rectors’ conferences in 49 European countries.

EUA’s RISG strategy group comprises 25 members. Its remit includes, among other things, preparing a four-year strategy on research and innovation for the EUA Board. The aim of EUA is to bring together university perspectives and feed them into European education and research policy.

In June, Walls was appointed to the board of NordForsk, a Nordic research funding agency, which operates under the Nordic Council of Ministers. The Board of Nordic Rectors’ Conference proposed Walls as a board member. The term of office of board members is four years.
