Number of applications to Tampere University’s international master’s degree programmes grows by 20%

In 2021, over 3,500 applications were submitted to Tampere University’s international master’s degree programmes. The number of applications was 20% higher compared to 2020.

In 2021, Tampere University organised the intake of 36 international master’s degree programmes, and the application period ended on 13 January 2021. The students admitted to these programmes will earn a Master of Arts, Social Sciences, Science, Technology or Architecture degree.

The total number of applications was 3,609. The most popular study options were Computing Sciences, Data Science (266 applications), Computing Sciences, Machine Learning (235 applications), Leadership for Change – Sustainable Business Management (214 applications) and Public and Global Health (212 applications). Applicants were able to apply to a maximum of three programmes.

There was also growth in the amount of applicants, who numbered 2,134, and the applicants represented more than 100 nationalities. The number of Finnish applicants was 309, and the percentage of non-EU and non-EEA applicants was nearly 80% (1,638 applicants).

Marja Sutela, Vice President for Education at Tampere University, is very happy with the growth in the number of applicants in these challenging times. “We were especially pleased that a record number of new international degree students started their studies at Tampere University last autumn semester,” she said.

The application period for Tampere University’s English-taught bachelor’s programmes ends on 20 January 2021.
