Because of the coronavirus outbreak, universities will replace their conventional entrance examinations with alternative admissions procedures this spring. The updated admission criteria will be published on our website on Thursday 30 April.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the higher education institutions in Finland have determined that organising conventional entrance examinations will not be possible this spring without compromising the safety of those involved. This conclusion has been made because of the severity of the pandemic, the difficulty of identifying those at a high risk for serious illness from COVID-19, and the risks associated with travelling and taking an on-campus examination. To ensure the health and safety of applicants and staff, higher education institutions have decided to replace conventional entrance examinations with alternative admissions procedures in the spring and summer of 2020 to avoid physical contact.

Universities will manage student admissions under the current exceptional circumstances by considering the specific characteristics of each field of study and continuing to follow the national joint application procedures. Instead of conventional entrance examinations, alternative arrangements will be put in place, such as digital admissions procedures, online courses, admission based on existing qualifications, or admission through the Open University route. Small-scale entrance examinations may be organised as long as careful precautions are taken.

Universities of applied sciences will organise their entrance examinations in early June. The exact schedule will be announced later. The Finnish universities of applied sciences have been collaboratively developing their student admissions procedures for many years and are prepared to organise entrance examinations online.

The updated criteria for admission to Tampere University will be published on the programme-specific “How to apply” pages on our website on Thursday 30 April. Links to the web pages of degree programmes that fall within the scope of the national joint application procedure are available on our Finnish-language website. We will provide all applicants who have sought admission to Tampere University and to whom the updated admission criteria apply with more information by email on 30 April. This email will be sent to the address that applicants provided in the application form they submitted through the Studyinfo.fi website.

More information about the alternative admissions procedures implemented by Tampere University of Applied Sciences will be published on our Finnish-language website on Thursday 30 April.
