The Tampere University Game Research Lab and the Centre of Excellence in Game Culture Studies are proud to present the 17th annual spring seminar Monstrosity, to be organised online 20–22 April 2021.

Monstrosity is the 17th annual Game Research Lab Spring Seminar. The seminar theme changes each year, as do the invited expert commentators. This year, the invited commentators are Dr. Aino-Kaisa Koistinen (University of Jyväskylä, Finland), Doctoral Candidate Sarah Stang (York University, Canada), Dr. Jaroslav Švelch (Charles University, Prague), and Professor Frans Mäyrä (Tampere University, Finland).

The Game Research Lab Spring Seminar is the longest running game studies seminar in the world. The seminar emphasises work-in-progress submissions, and its main purpose is to facilitate peer-to-peer discussions and provide support in refining and improving research work in this area. This year, we were able to include 27 working paper presentations and 3 keynote lectures, each offering interesting and varied perspectives into the topic of monstrosity. The full seminar programme can be found here: https://springseminar.org/programme.

Monstrosity takes place on 20–22 April 2021. Due to the ongoing global pandemic, the event is organised online for the first time in its history. The seminar is hosted by the Tampere University Game Research Lab and organised in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence in Game Culture Studies.

The registration for the seminar is now open, and you can register free of charge through the registration form. As we only have a very limited number of open seats available, please only register if you are certain of attending the event.

Once all open seats have been reserved, you can inquire about possible cancellations using the seminar email address gamestudiesseminar [at] gmail.com.
