The IEEE 23rd International Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing (IEEE MMSP 2021) is organized as a hybrid event on October 06–08, 2021 in Tampere, Finland. The main theme of this year’s MMSP is “Empowering remote presence for industry and society”.

The IEEE MMSP 2021 technical program includes two keynotes, 44 oral and 61 poster presentations, 4 demo papers, 3 special sessions, and a grand challenge. Keynote by Oliver Schreer from Fraunhofer HHI discusses the Current State and Advances of Volumetric Video, whereas Tuomas Virtanen from Tampere University will address the topic of Acoustic scene analysis – machine learning tasks, models, data, and applications.

As a part of the program, the Finnish national network on remote presence and human virtualization research is presented (MAGICS kick-off event) by hosting a multidisciplinary panel and catching demos streamed from different locations. The panel features prominent experts in various fields related to remote presence and virtualization of humans: from psychology and neuroscience to sensing, imaging  and networking technologies, to art and music.

The demonstrations include a Volumetric Capture platform demo (live stream from Israel), Remote operation of a vehicle, (MIRO project, at Scandic Rosendahl), Multi-location demo with students from Näty (TAU) and Kuva (Uniarts) and Multi-location musical performance, to name a few.

The registration for virtual participants is still open!
