The Finnish Red Cross and International House Tampere visited TAMK’s main campus’ Parvi (B1-24) on Wednesday 9 March to meet with students.

Collaboration within Tampere Region is central in TAMK’s strategy. Cooperation with the 3rd sector is important for developing TAMK’s programmes and outreach. It is also vital for students and staff to know what assistance is given from other organizations too.

Cooperation between TAMK and the Finnish Red Cross (SPR) is enriched to support both international and Finnish students in multiculturalism and community spirit. The Finnish Red Cross offers Finnish language clubs in the Tampuri spaces around Tampere.

“Volunteering and volunteer work promote community spirit,” emphasizes Ursula Helsky, from Talent Boost programme.

On the other hand, the cooperation between TAMK and International House Tampere promotes international talent attraction and TAMK student employment prospects. The International House Tampere is a strong partner in the Talent Boost programme and can function as a link between companies and employers in Tampere Region and students.

On-campus meetings strengthen cooperation

Various campus visits and activities are being organized. Such visits enrich the bond between TAMK and local organizations, while also giving the opportunity to students and staff to actively participate and explore all possibilities easily.

“You cannot beat a face-to-face opportunity to promote understanding of the services we have to offer to students,” exclaims Nick Cotton, Talent Advisor at International House Tampere.

On 9th of March 2022, representatives from the Finnish Red Cross and International House Tampere visited TAMK main campus’ Parvi premises. The main point on the agenda was to present opportunities for volunteer work and employment to TAMK students.

“We are excited to visit the campus again to meet more students,” promises Kaisa Kuuppo, Coordinator of volunteer activities for the Finnish Red Cross Tampere Branch.

Talent Boost empowers international TAMK students

The Talent Boost programme is developing activities that attract international talents to TAMK and supports international students with integration into Finland during their studies. It also strengthens cross-cultural and language skills while further developing cooperation with business and working life.

The direct target group is mostly international TAMK students with a foreign background. However, Finnish students are also invited to join in the activities and enrich the cultural exchange and learning curve. Although a separate multidisciplinary team has been created for Talent Boost, the contribution of every TAMK member is necessary, and all are asked to be open-minded.

“In order to be really and genuinely international UAS, there should be much more foreign staff members at TAMK,” comments Ursula Helsky.

The students have expressed mixed feelings and emotions which are caused by current worldwide events. They have expressed the need of belonging and contribute to the community together. Also, they are interested in participating in open dialogue in an environment that ensures safety and trust.
