Today, Tampere Institute for Advanced Study (Tampere IAS) opens a new application period for two-year research fellowships. Nine Postdoctoral Research Fellow posts and nine Senior Research Fellow posts in the fields of technology, health and society are open for applications. The application period will end on Monday 7 March 2022.

The call for applications is international.

Tampere IAS offers the best researchers an opportunity to focus on their research without interruption, which enables them to advance to the next level in their career.

Tampere IAS supports the scientific quality of research at Tampere University.

“The best way to enhance scientific quality is to offer enthusiastic researchers a chance to concentrate on their research full-time without strategic limitations to their research topic,” says Juha Teperi, Director of Tampere IAS.

“We will let the research fellows work in peace, but we also understand that two years is a short time in a researcher’s life and the dynamics of research. During these two years, we also want to offer our fellows a longer perspective to career planning,” Teperi adds.

Tampere IAS is currently piloting a programme where each research fellow is found a handpicked academic mentor.

During the two-year period, for which the fellows are appointed to Tampere IAS, they are both researchers at the institute and members of their faculty.

In 2021, over 600 applications were submitted to the 18 research posts, most of which came from international applicants.

Three appointment committees consisting of Tampere University’s senior researchers will decide who the approximately one hundred researchers are whose applications will be sent for international peer-review. The research fellows will be appointed by the President based on a proposal by the Board of Tampere IAS.

The selection decisions are expected to be finalised by mid-May. The posts will be filled from 1 September 2022.
