Applicant numbers rise in TAMK’s professional teacher educations

Professional teacher educations interest applicants. Extension of compulsory education had positive effects on applicant numbers of Tampere University of Applied Sciences’ professional special needs teacher education and guidance counsellor education. Their applicant numbers rose significantly from the year before. TAMK had almost 5 applicants per study place in guidance counsellor education and almost 3 applicants per study place in professional teacher education and special needs teacher education.

Professional teacher education received 735 primary applications. It was the most popular programme at TAMK’s School of Pedagogic Innovations. The guidance counsellor education received 99 primary applications and special needs teacher education 58 primary applications.

In addition to Tampere, TAMK organises teacher education in Seinäjoki, Pori and eastern Finland (Savonlinna and Lappeenranta). Admitted students can specialise in STEM substances. TAMK’s professional teacher education studies can also be completed in English or online.

“The number of applicants continued to grow at TAMK and nationally. It is delightful that teaching is seen as an important profession. It tells about the high-quality education provided at teacher education institutions. Teaching competence is considered important in many tasks of our society, from educational institutions to companies,” comments Director Hanna Ilola from TAMK’s School of Pedagogic Innovations.

Professional teacher educations can be applied again next year.
