Premises and devices

We offer different learning spaces, such as group study rooms, 3D printers and virtual reality devices for the students. You can book rooms and devices at Arvo, Hervanta and Linna via your Outlook calendar and the rooms at TAMK Main Campus from Library customer service. You can find more detailed info about the rooms and devices from the listing below. Please note, that some rooms can only be accessed with a key card to the campus in question.

Arvo

Bookable group study rooms

You can book the rooms via your own Outlook calendar.

When you book a room, please remember:

  • Be on time. The room becomes available to others 15 minutes after the booked time if you are not there.
  • If you can't come, cancel your booking on Outlook calendar.
  • One group can use the room max. 3 hours/day.
  • Simo and Timo are available 24/7 but bookable only during Arvo's opening hours.

Classroom

Arvo library's classroom Mauri (B109) on floor 1 is available for study purposes outside the courses with the key card on weekdays between 8.00 and 20.00. The classroom cannot be reserved. The weekly course schedule can be found on the screen beside the classroom door and in the Office calendar. The use of classroom computers requires Tuni user account. The teacher's computer is only for staff use. Please, consider the other users and take care of peaceful studying environment.

Learning spaces on floor 1

In Arvo library's learning center there is a computer area and a silent reading room. Please, consider the other users and take care of peaceful studying environment.

The facilities are accessible for the students of Tampere Universities with the key card 24/7, also the group work rooms Simo and Timo. When the Library is closed use the main door of Arvo building. On weekdays between 21.00 and 5.30 and on weekends you'll need a PIN code you can get from Arvo's IT Helpdesk (E106).

Hervanta

3D printers and virtual reality devices

When you book a device, please remember:

  • Devices are at use Mon-Fri from 9 am to 5 pm.
  • Be on time. The room becomes available to others 15 minutes after the booked time if you are not there.
  • If you can't come, cancel your booking on Outlook calendar.
  • Don’t left a printer unattended.

Using the 3D printers

There are two 3D printers for the students to use in Hervanta. With the printers you can make for example models for your studies. Print models should be in .stl or .obj form. We use PLA plastic as a printing material.

You can print during Hervanta’s service hours from Mondays to Fridays form 9 am to 5 pm. All printing must stop at 4.45 so the printers can cool down before closing. You’ll find detailed instructions for the printing beside the printers and also the staff is willing to guide you.

Using the virtual reality devices

Tampere Univeristy students and staff get to use virtual reality devices at the Library’s unit in Hervanta. VR devices can be booked for Hervanta service hours from Mondays to Fridays form 9 am to 5 pm. One booking is two hours.

When your booking starts, borrow a key to device cabinet from the Hervanta service desk. You need a personal Steam account to use the devices. Steam account is free and we recommend that you get it before your first booking. You’ll find detailed instructions for using the devices from the VR room.

Linna

Bookable group study rooms

Group study rooms are on floor 3 of Linna library. You can book the rooms via your own Outlook calendar.

When you book a room, please remember:

  • One group can use the room max. 3 hours/day.

Open group study rooms

Open group study rooms in Linna library's floor 3 are freely available for you and your study group if there are free seats. Please, consider the other users nearby and take care of peaceful studying environment.

  • Hietanen (3052), 3rd floor; For one group.
  • Rokka (3053), 3rd floor; For one or more groups. Computer, data projector.

Multipurpose spaces

In the multipurpose spaces you can work alone or with a group. These spaces are available when the Library is open. Please, consider the other users and take care of peaceful studying environment.

  • Pohjantähti, floor 1
  • Idea, floor 1, beside the main lobby of Linna building.
    The interactive touch screen is available for group work. Also some open events of the University community can be held in Idea.

Classrooms

Library's classrooms on floor 3 are available for study purposes outside the courses with the key card when the Library is open. Classrooms cannot be reserved. The weekly course schedule can be found on the screen beside the classroom door and in the Office calendar. The use of classroom computers requires Tuni user account. Silent Reading Room

Linna's Silent Reading Room is located on floor 2 and the entrance is in the main lobby of Linna building (Kalevantie street side). Silent Reading Room is open according to the Library's opening hours and available with the access card 24/7 for the students of the University community. When the Library is closed, enter the staircase through the side door situated opposite the Finnish Student Health Service building.

  • Laptops can be used in the larger area of the Reading Room. The glass-walled area is a space where devices are not used.
  • There is a break room where you can take a break and have a snack.
  • There is camera surveillance and access control in the Reading Room.

In the Reading Room you'll take care of peaceful studying environment when you

  • Use your mobile phone only outside the Reading Room. Switch your phone to silent mode when you enter.
  • Listen with headphones on low volume.
  • If you have to discuss with other people, please go outside the room.

Microfilm room

You can use microfilms and microfiches in the room 3008 that is located on the Library's floor 3, on the Kalevantie street side.

TAMK Main Campus

Printing, scanning and copying

Students and staff of Tampere Universities

You can print, copy and scan documents in the library with multi-function devices.

  • Register your student card or personnel ID card to the service at the printer. There are instructions near the printers and on IT Helpdesk Printing web page. <linkki>
  • After registration you can print with your card from any device on University campuses.
  • If necessary, you can also print without a card by entering your username and password. 
  • Send support requests and error messages to the University IT Helpdesk.
  • Students can buy extra printing quota primarily from the online shop (Ricoh Oy) and or, when needed, at Ricoh service points. More information on printing quota (see "Students' printing quota").

Other customers

Non-university customers can print and copy in the Library using Ricoh copy card.

  • We sell copy cards at the Library's customer service at Arvo and Linna. See prices for copy cards
  • Members of Tays hospital staff can borrow a copy card with their personnel photo ID at Arvo customer service. The copy card has to be returned immediately after the use.

Wireless networks

In the Library you can use the same wireless networks as on the other public premises of the University and TAMK. Primarily, use the protected Eduroam network so that you can access the Library's e-resources.

As a visitor you can connect to the campus specific guest networks. You can collect a temporary guest account from the IT Helpdesk on campuses; furthermore on Main Campus also from info desks in Main building and Pinni B building and on TAMK Main Campus from info desk and the Library. With a temporary guest account you cannot access the Library's e-resources but only by using those computers of the Library that are for visitor use.
