Guides for TUNI Groups
Downloading files
Below are instructions on how to download files from Tuni Groups to your own computer or from your own computer to Tuni Groups, and how to make new SharePoint folders visible in Teams as well.
1. Downloading files from TUNI Groups to your computer
The files are downloaded to your computer as a zip package, which is then extracted to the desired location. Note! OneNote notes will not be transferred because they work in a different way.
- Open the SharePoint file library of the TUNI Group in a browser.
- Select the files and folders you want to download to your computer. Note! If there are a lot of files or they are large in file size, you may not be able to download everything at once. It is recommended that you download files from the root folder level to your computer one folder at a time.
- Click the Download button
- The selected files are made into a zip package, which is saved in the Downloads folder on your computer by default. To check where the files are located, press Ctrl + J in the browser.
2. Downloading files from an existing Microsoft 365 group to the computer
The selected files are made into a zip package, which is saved in the Downloads folder on your computer by default. To check where the files are located, press Ctrl + J in the browser.

- Open the file location where the downloaded zip file is located.
- Right-click on the zip package and select Extract All… If you are using OneDrive Sync, you can extract the zip package directly to a synchronized folder on your computer. More detailed instructions for synchronization can be found on this page.
- Select the location where you want to extract the files. By default, a folder corresponding to the zip package name is created in the same file location for the files to be extracted.
2.1. Export files to TUNI Groups via a browser
- Open the SharePoint file library of the TUNI Groups. You can find the group file library by opening the TUNI Groups home page and clicking the Application Menu button (three dots) on the group card. Select Go To Files.

- Select Upload - Folder if the files are in a folder on your computer.
- Select Upload - Files if you are uploading single files.
- If you have large amounts of files (larger than one GB), upload the subfolders in the folder one at a time to the file library. If there are no large numbers of files, you can fully download the folder and move the subfolders to the root level in the file library.
- Select the folder to download from your computer and click the Upload button if the browser asks for confirmation to upload.
- Open the folder downloaded to the file library, select all the files inside the folder, and click the Move to button.

- Select Current Library and then click the Move here button.
- Now you can delete the empty folder.
2.2 Exporting files to TUNI Groups using the OneDrive synchronization program
You can synchronize group files using the OneDrive sync software installed on your computer. You can also use the synchronization program without an Internet connection, but then you need to make sure that the files are synchronized to the O365 cloud when you have an Internet connection.
When you make changes to files synchronized to your computer, the same changes are made to files on the network. If you edit files online through a browser, the changes will be made to the files synchronized to your computer. If you delete files from the group's file libraries through a browser, the file will also be deleted from a folder synchronized to your computer.

- Open the TUNI Groups SharePoint file library in your browser. You can find the group file library by opening the TUNI Groups homepage (https://tuni.fi/groups) and clicking the Application Menu button on the group card (three dots ...) and selecting Go To Files.
- Click the Sync button on the file library page.
-
Click Open OneDrive if the browser asks permission to open the application.
- A OneDrive window opens. The first time you use it, you get instructions on synchronizing. Click the Start sync button.
- Your group’s SharePoint library appears on your computer’s directory under the TUNI.fi folder.

- Open the folder where the files are.
- Choose the files that need to be extracted and copy them onto your clipboard.
-
Open the SharePoint library that is synchronized on your computer and add the files into the library.
- If the files are in a zip packet, you may extract the zip packet directly into your computer by clicking the right mouse button and choosing Extract All.
- Choose the new file library synchronized on your computer by clicking the Browse button.

- OneDrive program will start synchronizing the files into the network.
- When all the files have been synchronized, the file library icon turns green.
Folders and files imported to the TUNI Groups Teams view
When you enter the new TUNI Group Teams team mode, you will see only one channel: General. Each channel has a Files tab where you can save and create files and export files shared on the channel. If you have copied folders to the TUNI Groups SharePoint file library, you will not see the files in Teams team mode. You must move the files to the General channel folder, or you can create folders with the same name in Teams team mode as in the SharePoint root folder to display the files in Teams team mode. You can also link the entire SharePoint file library as a separate tab to the channel.
I want all uploaded files in the General channel folder
- Click the Open in SharePoint button in the Teams space General channels Files tab

- Browser will open SharePoint File Library
- Click the Document link in the left navigation

- Select all folders and files, except the General folder, that you want to move to the General channel folder

- Click Move to button
- Select Current Library and then General folder

- Selected folders and files are moved under the General folder
- Files will also now appear in Teams spaces’ General channels’ Files tab

I want my folders in SharePoint file library at the root level to be in their own channels
- Click the Open in SharePoint button in the General channels Files tab

- Browser will open SharePoint File Library
- Click the Document link in the left navigation

- Check first names of the root folders in the files library

- Open Teams space and click the menu button (three dots) to the right of the team name and select Add Channel

- Name the channel so that it’s going to be named as one of the root folders

- Files are now represented in the channels’ Files tab

- Do the same for other root folders
I want to link the entire file library to a channel as a single tab
- Open Teams Team Mode and the channel to which you want to add the entire file library.
- Click the + button in the tab row

- Select Document Library

- Select the SharePoint site that matches the group name from the list and click Next

- Select Documents

- You can rename the tab if you want

- Click Save button
- The whole file library will appear on the tab
