About me

Álvaro Corredor Ochoa (MSc Architecture) is a doctoral researcher in sustainable urbanism. After completing his studies in architecture with urban planning as major in his homeland, (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, UPM) Spain, he started acquiring large architectural knowledge in different European environments and architectural fields: temporal architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, urban planning, retail architecture, urban design, landscape architecture, management and construction of interior architecture or even starting his own architectural office from where he realized numerous architectural and urban competitions worldwide.

After 5 years as a professional, he decided to turn his professional life and return to his urban origins of specialization. Therefore, he enrolled into a postgraduate master’s programme in sustainable architecture and urban planning that allowed him to start researching in sustainable urbanism and architecture, first at worldwide-known VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and later at SYKE The Finnish Environment Institute.

To gain knowledge in his specialty he has started the Doctoral Studies at Tampere University of Technology (Tampere University nowadays), investigating indicators of urban sustainability around transit-oriented developments (TODs).

He has completed the Climate KIC Pioneers into Practice 2015, a European Programme for climate change mitigation professionals that allowed him to be a visitor researcher in Coventry City Council and the Department of Urban Planning of the City of Vihti.

During his studies he worked self employed as a visitor researcher at The Urban Planning Department from Vantaa in 2016 and the Urban Planning Department from the School of Architecture at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in 2018.

He has published a scientific peer-reviewed book chapter in 2020, Challenges in Assessing Urban Sustainability, published by Elsevier.

Between 2020 and 2022, he had a gap in his research career, and worked for Posti Group OYj as a shop steward representing more than 1000 workers in Uusimaa Region. During this time he came back to deal with immigration issues as he did in his Master Thesis in Architecture. He is an influencer and active person in the Industrial Union (Teollisuusliitto) and has spezialised in inmigration issues.
