Sustainable actions on campuses
Waste management and recycling
Tampere Universities promote resource-wise practices on the campuses. Several methods to promote the efficient use and sharing of resources are already applied. They include, for example, the services provided by the Library and IT Services. Our campuses also feature places where goods can be borrowed or rented or where they can be recycled.
On the campuses, waste management is the responsibility of the facilities’ owners and the Universities’ Facilities Services. The facility owners are responsible for the waste collection points at the premises and the organisation of municipal waste management. Facilities Services oversees arranging waste management indoors, instructing users and collecting and transporting the waste the Universities generate.
Sustainable travel
Members of the universities community are encouraged to use environmentally friendly means of transport – such as public transport – in work-related travel.
For example, shared public transport travel cards valid in Tampere have been acquired for each university campus, which are intended for work-related travel during the workday. In addition, some campuses have roundabout bicycles one can borrow for biking from one campus to another.
In the campus facilities, attention is paid to solutions that encourage commuting by bike, such as bicycle parking spaces and adequate changing rooms.
Responsibly developing campuses
The functional development and use of Tampere Universities’ campus facilities provides an opportunity to promote responsibility and collaboration in the community. The goal of campus development is to create multi-purpose environments for learning, work, research and encounters that support daily life in the best possible way and foster multidisciplinarity in the community. The aim is to develop facilities that respond responsibly to the changing needs of their users and society now and in the future.
