Tell us about yourself and your studies

I am from New York. I have been living in Tampere for a while now and I love every minute of it (especially the chilling cold weather). Tampere University is such a diverse university where students from all around the world come together to achieve any academic and professional goals.

I came to Tampere to study for my Master’s degree at Tampere University. My Master’s major is Social Science Research, specification in Public Policy Analysis. My background is in Social Work. I work with people with disabilities and the homeless population to enhance their quality of life while respecting diversity and promoting choice and alternatives for independent living in our societies. Therefore, a Master’s degree in Public Policy Analysis will deepen my knowledge as well as polish my skills to advocate efficiently for those in need.

Can you share us your experiences on Tampere and Finland

If you love nature, high quality of life, friendly people, and like to have everything within easy reach, Tampere and Finland will be the best choice you have ever made. The most surprising thing for me is that you can speak English to most people despite English is not the national language of Finland.

Mostly, I spend my time outside school in Downtown Tampere where there are many activates and events all year round such as sports, restaurants, bars, live music, museums, theaters, and shopping. I love food so my favorite place is Zarillo. They have very best burgers and the most important thing is that they offer best student discounts! How does it sound?!

What would you say to someone planning to study and live in Tampere?

Most international students would do extensive research before they finalize their placement options. There is nothing wrong with that but why would you spoil the fun? Tampere is a safe and multicultural city with a lot of lakes, parks, mountains, forests, transportations, and events during both summer and winter. Come and explore it by yourself. Don’t rely on Google. Follow your instincts like the Nike’s slogan “Just Do It”.
