Miia Pirinen: "Studying screenwriting has been a tide-turning experience for me"
What are you currently doing?
I am a serial entrepreneur, writer, screenwriter, speaker, and mentor. Innovating new things and creating exceptional ideas are at the core of my work, persona and overall in everything I do. I have a strong urge to learn more and to educate myself. If I'm not studying in a programme, I often take courses in open UAS in Tampere. I graduated from TAMK's Master's Degree Programme in Screenwriting in 2018.
How did you find out about TAMK?
I knew TAMK through my previous Master's degree. When I was searching for programmes in screenwriting, I was positively surprised to find a Master's Degree Programme in Screenwriting at TAMK. I knew by experience that these Master's degree programmes are excellent, so it was a natural choice for me.
What made you choose TAMK for your studies?
As an entrepreneur, I was not ready to study full-time, but I still wanted to study in the Master's degree programme. TAMK was the only choice for me to study screenwriting and still work at the same time. I also appreciate the combination of theory and practical work that TAMK has in their programmes.
What did you like most about Tampere?
Tampere is a town of endless opportunities and everything is just around the corner.
In what ways have your studies contributed to your professional and personal life?
Studying screenwriting has been a tide-turning experience for me. My passion for storytelling has always fuelled me, but this programme took my skills to the next level. Combining the art of screenwriting and business opportunities has opened a whole new field for me. I also got many good friends and amazing colleagues through my studies.
What was the best thing about studies at TAMK?
One fantastic factor of the whole experience was the group of colleagues that gave support, ideas, and made the workshops unforgettable. Another thing was the opportunity to visit London Screenwriting Festival, where we pitched our ideas to producers. The third one was the chance to get help from an international professional screenwriting mentor.
How has TAMK supported your needs as a student?
TAMK has managed to create an atmosphere that you get help and advice whenever you need it.
What would you say to someone considering studying at TAMK?
I recommend studying in Master's programmes because it is not just that you learn more things; it is the group of peers that will open your thinking to new levels of wisdom.
Best memory of your time at TAMK?
I always enjoyed our workshop days. They were full of creativity, realisations, and laughter. I will always carry those memories with me.
