"Living and studying in Tampere is better than my imagination” - student ambassador story
How long have you been in Tampere and what brought you here?
I have been here in Tampere for more than 4 years. My journey to Finland started when I was a 17 years old girl who wondered about the world and everything and tried to find a way to reach the world. Finland was very appealing to me because of its nature, living standards, and especially the good education system. I was very lucky that Tampere University of Applied Sciences accepted me to study without tuition fees and opened the door for me to the world, and the first place that I came out of my country is Tampere, a beautiful city.
What subject do you study and how did you choose it?
I have been studying Environmental Engineer from the Bachelor's degree at TAMK to continue my Master's degree at Tampere University. My personal interests are towards nature, green society, and sustainability. I realized the global sustainability challenges when human impacts on the environment are getting worse. Many bad consequences appeared like climate change, pollution makes me think of doing something for it. That's why I decided to study environmental engineer with the specialized theme in Governance for Circular Economy. All I want is to be able to contribute something to world and make it sustainable.
What do you like most about Tampere and Finland? What has been the most surprising or different thing about living here?
The thing that impressed me a lot is the peacefulness and nature. Tampere and Finland in general are very close to nature. I can see the forest everywhere, nature is next to my door, and the lifestyle is also related to nature that is very different from my home city in Vietnam, a very crowded urban city. I feel that moving to Tampere makes my life become slower to be able to enjoy the moments. I used to live a hustling city and somehow ignored the little things like the beauty of nature or the sound of birds. When I came to Tampere, this peaceful and tranquil city helps my soul more relaxed so that I can enjoy the life better.
What are your hobbies in Tampere? Have you tried out any new hobbies after coming here?
Skiing and snowman building are my new favorites after coming here because my home country does not have snow. Skiing is hard but brings a lot of fun and a great experience for me. It is worth a try.
What would you say to someone who's trying to decide whether Tampere is the right place to come to study and live?
You never know what is awaiting you here in Tampere. My experiences will definitely differ from you but all I can say is that living and studying in Tampere is better than my imagination. It can also be better than your imagination so just come and experience!
