"Experience something new and get out of your comfort zone" - student ambassador story
How long have you been in Tampere and what brought you here originally?
I have been here since August 2018. I am living here now because I started my Master's degree. I selected Tampere because my program is unique and I couldn´t find any similar programmes in Germany or in another Finnish university. On top of this I wanted to study in Tampere, a city which combines nature and a great atmosphere for students.
What subject do you study and how did you choose it?
I study Leadership for Change. I chose this subject because it allows me to combine my interest in Politics-Management-Administration. On top of this I can study with a focus on sustainability.
What do you most like about Tampere and Finland?
I like the combination of nature and city life. I can go into the forest in the morning and join my friends in a bar in the afternoon. Furthermore, I really like the university culture in Finland. You have the freedom to study, next to your compulsory studies, a lot of subjects which might not be directly related to your field but enrichen it. I decided to study my minor in responsible business and sustainability.
What about your hobbies here in Tampere or in Finland?
I really enjoy the nature in Finland. I like to go mushroom and berry picking and I am always in for a hike. In Finland those activities are common and there are a lot of areas for those. Even right next to my apartment. On top of this I am really looking forward to the winter time and all of the snow as I really like winter sports like ice skating.
What would you say to someone deciding whether Tampere is the right place to come to study and live?
I would say: do it! Even though some points about Finland might seem a bit scary (the darkness in winter or the amount of snow) to study here and especially in Tampere is an opportunity you don't want to miss out. You will experience something new and get out of your comfort zone next to the possibility to profit from excellent teaching in Tampere. And at the end of the day you will realize that the darkness and the snow are something beautiful and a wonderful study environment.
