Student Ambassador Yimeng Chen comes from China. She has been living in Tampere since 2016.

How long have you been in Tampere and what brought you here originally?

I have been living in Tampere since the summer of 2016. I came to Finland to do a Bachelor’s degree, but I spent my first year in Kokkola (2015).Then I transferred to Tampere for the second year, therefore, I moved to Tampere.

What subject do you study and how did you choose it?

I study energy and environmental engineering. I think environmental topics are nowadays very important. After my study I would like to work on something that would be useful for the environment.

What do you most like about Tampere and Finland?

For Finland, I like the study environment, the huge personal space, the tranditional Finnish sauna, good looking guys and the dark cold winter with snow (yeah, I am weird). And for Tampere, I think it is the most student friendly city in Finland.

What about your hobbies in Tampere or in Finland?

I like watching movies here in Tampere, the cinemas and the people there are nice. The popcorn also tastes excellent.

What would you say to someone deciding whether Tampere is the right place to come to study and live?

Believe in Tampere and believe in yourself, the new Tampere university community will be one of the most competitive educational institutions in Finland. The city is developing and you will be a part of that process.

Anything else you want to say?

I will not regret my choice of coming to Tampere.
