Economics

Studying economics at Tampere University provides the skills for working in demanding economist positions in the private and public sector, in managerial positions that require expertise in economics, as well as the ability to participate in research both in Finland and abroad.

We offer an economics programme that follows an internationally standardized structure. Our curriculum covers core courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics, as well as applied courses in different fields of economics.

Our research programme concentrates on policy relevant applied research, with a particular focus on public economics and labour economics. We also apply insights from behavioral economics to various topics in these fields.

A consortium administered by our faculty has been selected to serve as a Centre of Excellence, funded by Academy of Finland during years 2022-2029. Our Centre of Excellence concentrates of tax research. The website of The Finnish Centre of Excellence in Tax System Research can be found at https://verotutkimus.fi/en/home/.
