Study Guide 2015-2016

FYS-7106 Introduction to Soft Matter Physics, 3-5 cr

Additional information

The course provides two alternating sizes. The larger one (5 cu) covers the whole material of the course. In the smaller one (3 cu) the depth of the material discussed in the course is easier, and the number and the difficulty of exercises is less challenging than in the full course. In the same spirit, the exam of the shorter (3 cu) course will be easier than in the full (5 cu) course. Only the full 5 cu version of the course is suitable for advanced studies in physics, and postgraduate studies. The 3 cu version is aimed for students from study programmes other than physics. All course material and lectures will be given in English.
Suitable for postgraduate studies

Requirements

Exam (100%). Additionally, activity in performing exercises will have a positive impact on the grade of the course.
Completion parts must belong to the same implementation

Learning Outcomes

After passing the course, the student will have basic knowledge about the topics discussed in the course. These include, in particular, the structure and dynamics of soft matter systems, the interactions operating in soft matter, the processes and phenomena taking place therein, and the physical laws governing the processes. Using these pieces of knowledge the student will be able to analyze and solve some relevant problems related to the physical features of soft matter.
