Learning Outcomes

In this course, the student will learn to: - define what are Computational Systems Biology and Processing of physiological signals and images and which subareas they cover. - list basic computational methods used in these disciplines and understand for what purposes they can be used - understand how computational methods can be used to solve problems involving measurement data. - understand how to perform data acquisition for biological data of various origin - independently search for information and available methods to solve practical problems.

Content

Content Core content Complementary knowledge Specialist knowledge
1. Defining the area of information technology for health and biology, key terminology, needs and benefits.  Current topics in computational methods in biosignal processing, medical image processing and systems biology research.
2. Applications of signal processing in systems biology and health informatics, and their key benefits.  Examples of applications with key benefits.
3. Models in systems biology (e.g. deterministic and stochastic models of cellular processes).
4. Mathematical and computational methods in sequence analysis and genomic expression analysis.

Instructions for students on how to achieve the learning outcomes

Pass / fail. To pass the course student needs to attend learning events and complete the learning diary (accept/fail). At least 1 page description per lecture and attendance to 80% of lectures or more are required. The exercises consist of visits to laboratories, research teams, and/or companies involved in research in these areas. Information on these will be provided in advance in the lectures. There will be 4 visits. In the visits, the students will sign a presence list.

Assessment scale:

Evaluation scale passed/failed will be used on the course

Partial passing:

Completion parts must belong to the same implementation
