Requirements

- successful pass of examination is a must; - attendance of lectures and exersises is mandatory; - homeworks is advisable.

Learning Outcomes

- get familiar with network dimensioning concepts; - study network analysis and dimensioning by examples; - we cover examples for modern wired and wireless networks.

1. Introduction to dimensioning problems: - small- and medium-to-large-scale traffic management; - traffic description in circuit-/packet-switched networks; - network architecture, multi-layer concept; - network flow problems and solutions      
2. Optimization tools for network dimensioning: - unconstrained optimization - complexity of algorithms; - linear programming: simplex method; - convex programming: gradient projection method; - integer problems: branch-and-cut method; - heuristic algorithms; - algorithms for network graphs.     
3. Dimensioning of various technologies: - capacitated/upcapacitated network dimensioning problems; - shortest path first routing optimization; - fair networks (TCP-like greedy systems); - multi-layer network optimization; - technological examples: IGP, MPLS, ATM; - technological examples: WDM, optical cross-connects.

Course is evaluated based on the following: - examination; - attendance of exersises; - completion of homeworks.

Numerical evaluation scale (1-5) will be used on the course

Partial passing:

Completion parts must belong to the same implementation
