Learning Outcomes

After passing the course the student will have the ability to compose a literature survey following the principles of scientific writing. The student can perform information searches for reference material. Of these chosen scientific research articles the student can draw conclusions and summarize data to compile a literature review. Oral presentation skills will also be learned as the students present their seminar topics and conclusions in seminar meetings. The student will also learn to comment and criticize scientific text as the students act as opponents to each other during the seminars. The course will prepare students for writing their Master's thesis. The seminar topics should be within the expertise area of the Department of Chemistry and Bioengineering.

Content

Content Core content Complementary knowledge Specialist knowledge

5. Acting as opponent, evaluation of text produced by others

Instructions for students on how to achieve the learning outcomes

The grade (0-5) will be determined by the quality and thoroughness of the literature survey, and how well it reflects the principles of scientific writing. The skills shown in written reporting are of importance. The quality of preparing the oral presentation also affects the grade. Also, the profundity of evaluating and familiarizing oneself with the literature survey the student is acting as an opponent and will affect the grade. Meeting the schedule set for writing the seminar paper is of high importance. A good understanding the core content will suffice to a grade 3. In order to earn a grade 4 or 5 the student will have to have a good or excellent understanding of supplementary knowledge.
