Learning outcomes

Student can explain the main terminology, definitions and concepts of implantology. Student can describe the stages of wound healing and the components of blood, and explain basis of coagulation. Student can determine inflammation, describe stages of inflammation and compare the types of inflammation. Student can describe different mechanisms of wound healing and recognize the differences between inflammation and infection.

Content

Content Core content Complementary knowledge Specialist knowledge
1. Stages of an implant in the body.  Effect of an implant on wound healing.  To know what can go wrong in implantology and lead to failure, i.e to recognise different types of phenomena resulting in failure of an implant.
2. Components of blood and basis of coagulation.  To know how to control coagulation by means of pharmacology.  To identife the most important biologically active substances associated with coagulation and anticoagulation.
3. Inflammation and types of inflammation.  To identife the imflammatory cells and their function.  To know the phases of imflammation and to know the meaning of those phases.
4. Stages of wound healing, types, problems, infections and factors affecting healing.   To identife the problems in wound healing.  To identife the different types of haemorrhage.
5. Different grafts used in implantology and areas in implantology.  Benefits and possible risks of different types of grafts.  Classification of medical devices and basis for the classification.

Evaluation criteria for the course

The final grade of the course is determined based on the assessment of all part of the course. The weighting factor of each part is given at the beginning of the course. Grades 1-2: Learning outcomes have been achieved. Satisfactory command in core content of the course. Grades 3-4: Some learning outcomes have been exceeded qualitatively or quantitatively. Good command in core content and complementary knowledge of the course. Good or very good marks from all parts of the course. Grade 5: Most of the learning outcomes have been exceeded. Deep command in the whole content of the course. Almost maximum performance in all parts of the course.

Assessment scale:

Numerical evaluation scale (1-5) will be used on the course

Partial passing:
