Learning outcomes

Student can explain to which purposes and how the physiological recordings are performed. Student can explain the functioning of main organs and vital systems of the body in terms of measureable quantities. Student can explain, examine and compare alternative methods and technologies to perform recording from cardiovascular, neural, muscular and pulmonary systems. Student can apply the knowledge about the physiological recordings to other applications, such as patient monitoring, ambulatory monitoring, and implantable recordings. Student can explain the basic signal processing and analysis methods related to each application of physiological recordings.

Content

Content Core content Complementary knowledge Specialist knowledge
1. Human body as a complicated system: organ system level organizations of the body  Tissue level organization.
2. Generalized physiological recording system. Invasive and non-invasive approach to measurements.  Signal conditioning and noise reduction methods in the recordings.
3. Measurement principles, methods and devices of vital physiological systems: cardiovascular, neural, sceleto-muscular, and pulmonary system.  Analysis methods of the measurements.
4. Specific applications of physiological measurements: patient monitoring in ICU and during anaesthesia, ambulatory monitoring.  Recordings for the control of therapeutic devices, implanted systems.

Evaluation criteria for the course

The final grade of the course is determined based on the assessment of all part of the course. The weighting factor of each part is given at the beginning of the course. Grades 1-2: Learning outcomes have been achieved. Satisfactory command in core content of the course. Grades 3-4: Some learning outcomes have been exceeded qualitatively or quantitatively. Good command in core content and complementary knowledge of the course. Good or very good marks from all parts of the course. Grade 5: Most of the learning outcomes have been exceeded. Deep command in the whole content of the course. Almost maximum performance in all parts of the course.

Assessment scale:

Numerical evaluation scale (1-5) will be used on the course

Partial passing:

Completion parts must belong to the same implementation
