Learning outcomes

- After completing the programme the students will be able to apply management concepts and tools in a systematic way. They will be able to analyze and evaluate global business environment in order to identify market changes and emerging customer needs. They will also be able to evolve the market changes and unmet customer needs into business opportunities. In other words, the students learn how to create and deliver customer value based on the identified market needs.
- The students learn analytical, holistic and conceptual thinking. Thus, students learn to create new business visions and to understand the potential of management information systems in information gathering.
- The students learn to recognize different trends and evolutions that take place in business environment, and see them as opportunities. They learn to identify customer needs and develop solutions that add customer value in the changing environment. The students learn to understand, evaluate and develop global sourcing and sales processes in order to deliver customer value.
- The students learn to use systematic approach and apply information systems for gathering and analyzing data needed for new innovations and business development.
- The students attain competencies for participating in societal debate within their respective fields.
- The students learn language, communication and cooperative skills required in working life and to participate in scientific activities and societal debate.
- After completing the programme the students have the competency for scientific postgraduate studies.

The International Master's Programme in Business and Technology focuses on management of customer-supplier relationships in global, technology-driven industries. In the programme students with B. Sc. in engineering or technology will achieve the skills and competencies needed for management and business development of global sales and sourcing practices.

Structure

Common programme and subject-related studies, 21 cr

Learning outcomes

- The module trains students to international business environment and academic work. In this module the students learn business communication and they learn to identify and explain business concepts and terminology in practice. Furthermore, an important part of the common studies is that the students learn academic, conceptual thinking and scientific research methods.

A personal study plan will be designed for each student depending on the student's background (i.e. previous degree and studies). Students with technical studies in their B. Sc. will study the minor Introduction to Management Studies. Students who have included business studies in their B. Sc. will study a technical minor.


Optional studies, 8 cr

The student can freely select courses which (s)he wants to study. Courses from the Faculty of Business and Technology Management are recommended.


Master's Thesis (30 cr)

Learning outcomes

- The programme culminates in a Master's Thesis written independently by each student. With the thesis the students demonstrate that they know how to analyze big entities, use relevant literature, gather appropriate empirical data, write research reports in a creative manner, and deduce relevant conclusions. With the help of the thesis, the students show their capability to understand the big picture. In connection with the thesis, the students have to write a maturity test, which is an essay written on a topic related to the thesis. The maturity test demonstrates the students' command of the thesis topic.


Additional information related to the degree

The students of International Master's Programme in Business and Technology Management will be provided with personal study plans which are based on the students' backgrounds and previous studies. Students with technical background will study the minor Introduction to Management Studies. Students with previous studies in Industrial Management will study a technical minor.
