Learning outcomes
After taking the course, the student is able to analyze the quantum-mechanical light-matter interaction using semiclassical wave function and density matrix formalisms. The student is able to choose the most appropriate approach for different cases and to form the equations describing them. The student is able to solve the equations describing linear and nonlinear interactions using perturbation theory or justified approximations that take into account different mechanisms. The student is able to apply the methods to systems consisting of few levels and to analyze pulsed interactions using the Bloch equations.

Evaluation criteria for the course
Homework (40%) and final examination (60%). Full homework points alone will give a passing grade (1). About half of the homework points and excellent performance in the exam will give the highest grade (5).
Assessment scale:
Numerical evaluation scale (1-5) will be used on the course
