Objectives

After the course you know the main research and application areas of biomedical engineering. You understand the biophysical theories, basic data processing, analysis and modeling methods related to the human anatomy and physiological function and know how these methods are applied to develop medical devices and biomaterials. You have also learned at least the basics in biomaterials.

Content

Content Core content Complementary knowledge Specialist knowledge
1. Module 1: The importance and main research areas of biomedical engineering. Biophysical, bioelectric and biomechanical phenomena of human body. Patient safety and patient ethical issues.
2. Module 2: Basics and medical devices and instrumentation systems: medical recording, therapy and imaging devices and their physical basis.
3. Module 3: Biomaterials in medicine. Structures of material groups, interactions with body and the basis of biodegradation process.
4. Module 4: Reactions between the materials and tissues, properties of different biomaterials and most important clinical applications.
