Course objectives
To develop intermediate level knowledge on Communications circuits and their Applications. The course is of essential importance for communications circuits design, which is further continued by: 8307050 RF-ASIC, and 8307060 Seminar-II.

Content of the course
Essentials of the Design, Implementation and Measurement of High-Frequency Communications Circuits including: parameters & models, analysis & design of: inductors & transformers, microstrip & transmission lines. BJTs, HBTs, etc. Small-signal & large-signal models, RF-simulators. Low-noise amplifiers. Power amplifiers. Distributed amplifiers. Current-mode circuits. Active filters. Mixers and detectors, Oscillators, VCO/ICOs, PLL Circuits. Track & Hold, DAC and ADC. Sigma-delta converters. High-speed pulse/logic circuits. RF-design examples: Low-noise-amplifiers (LNA), Voltage- controlled-oscillators (VCO), Power Amplifiers (PA), Track & Hold amplifier (T&H). Basic RF-measurements by Spectrum and Network Analyzers, PLL/VCO-Phase-Noise Measurement System, RF-Oscilloscope etc. Software in use: PSpice, Cadence and ADS.

Requirements
