Course objectives
Teach the student about various signal compression methods and enable him to select proper methods for the signal compression task at hand.
Content of the course
Lossless techniques for data compression, text compression, lossless and lossy image compression, speech and audio compression.
Requirements
Project work and final exam.

Textbook: I.H. Witten, A. Moffat, T.C. Bell - Managing Gigabytes-Compressing and Indexing Documents and Images, Morgan Kaufmann 1999. Also material from several recent publications.
