Tavoitteet

To introduce students to the fundamentals of process planning. Introduction to process planning. Group technology. Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Tolerance planning and control. Workpiece control. Selecting and planning the manufacturing process.

Sisältö

Introduction to process planning (2 hours): Role of process plan, example of process planning for rotational part, example of process planning for prismatic part. Group technology (4 hours): Methods for developing part families, classification and coding, examples of coding systems. Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (4 hours): definitions, tolerance zones, datums. Tolerance planning and control (6 hours): Tolerance control, tolerance planning, tolerance charts, the rooted tree technique, advanced tolerance planning. Workpiece control (6 hours): Equilibrium theories, concept of location, geometric control, dimensional control, mechanical control, alternate location theory. Selecting and planning the manufacturing sequence (6 hours): preliminary analysis, operations classification, determining the major process sequence, combining operations.
