Objectives
Familiarize the student with the writing and presenting of a scientific article and the scientific publishing process.

Contents

1. A scientific publication: structure, contents, written presentation.  IEEE practices. Good scientific practice, research ethics.    
2. Use of English in scientific writing.  Analyzing examplary papers. Specific terminology.    
3. Phases of the publishing process. The peer review process. Scientific Societies.  Purpose and reputation of different fora.    
4. Oral presentations: preparation, materials, structuring. Participation to a scientific conference.  Examples. Acting as a conference session chair.    
5. Tools: Internet, data bases, word processing tools.  Use of LaTeX tools.    

Requirements for completing the course
Active participation, exercises, writing of a scientific article.

Assessment criteria
Passing the course requires active participation and successful completion of the exercises. Quality of the written paper affects the number of study points.
